No one ever thinks they will become homeless – and while no two experiences of life on the streets are the same, we’ve been working with a group of those who have lived it in Glasgow to share a glimpse of some of the realities of their experiences on camera.
Seen from this unique, often silenced perspective, the images are an undeniably stark and very different view of even the most familiar of the city’s streets.

As well as offering an insight into their personal stories, the photos and captions are a way for our photographers to suggest solutions to the current homelessness and mental health crises – something they each have first-hand experience of.
Please feel free to share this page with friends or share the images on your social media. We’d also love to hear what you think of the photos – don’t forget to tag us @ShelterScotland.
The photography group was brought together by Shelter Scotland with support from Open Aye, who enabled participants to tell their stories in a way that campaigns for change.
