Swinton MD takes on Kilimanjaro for Shelter

Kilimanjaro

In early 2018, Swinton Insurance announced a partnership with Shelter, their ambition being to generate funds and raise awareness around poor-quality homes, the housing shortage, and homelessness across the country.

With plans for a series of fundraising events for colleagues and customers, Swinton committed to raising £50,000 by April 2020 – and we’re delighted to say they’re already just a few pounds away from reaching that target! People all across the company have taken on challenges like the London Marathon, hosted sporting events such as a cricket day and a golf competition, and even ran a promotion on a Home Insurance product.

Scott Kennedy, Managing Director at Swinton, has been incredibly supportive of the partnership and taken on two challenges to support Shelter himself. In 2019, Scott’s grandmother Jean Wright passed away at the age of 87.  His grandmother was someone very special to him and her work ethic and support throughout her life has kept him motivated. To honour her, Scott wanted to do something special and in doing that, also give something back to the community.

So Scott decided to rope in his good friend Szilard Galgoczi to take on two tough challenges to raise funds for Shelter. The first was to be the Three Peaks Challenge and on the 13 July last year, Scott and Szilard completed it, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in just 24 hours. And on 21 January, the two will complete an even tougher challenge: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.

Scott and Szilard will be climbing a total of 29,183ft to raise funds and awareness for the work that we do at Shelter. We’re also delighted to say that Swinton have pledged to match every donation to Scott’s page, so fingers crossed he’ll hit his £10,000 target.

Good luck Scott, and thank you and everyone at Swinton for your amazing support! If you’d like to support Scott on his challenge, please visit his fundraising page.
